W-S Feed & Supplies Ltd. is a family run business that was established in 1965 in the town of St. Jacobs, with a single on-farm mobile unit. Earl Wideman started the company with Doug Spencer.
In 1967, the Conestogo mill location was purchased from Martin Feed Mills Ltd. In 1974 the St. Jacobs location was sold and the combined mobiling and milling business moved to the present Conestogo location. The Conestogo location had no pelleting facilities.
This fact precipitated the purchase of the Hybrid Turkeys Inc. mill just outside of Elmira in January 1994. This mill is currently known today as PFI Farms (formerly BWS Feeds) and is HACCP certified. Subsequently, ownership in PFI Farms was divested when in October 2008 W-S Feeds purchased the Tavistock New Life Mill.
In February 2001, W-S Feed & Supplies Ltd. purchased Mount Forest Elevators Ltd. This facility operated as a complete mill with capability to manufacture pellet feeds, textured dairy feeds, mash feeds and perform all bagging functions. There is a separate bulk feed manufacturing facility. This mill is HACCP certified.
In October 2008, W-S Feed & Supplies Ltd. purchased the Tavistock New Life Mill. The manufacturing was discontinued at the Conestogo and 535 Queen Street plant in Mount Forest. These two locations continue to operate as a bag retail store. The Tavistock plant produces all the textured and bagged feeds for all of W-S Feeds operations as well as the pellet and mash feeds for ruminants. While the 625 Queen street plant in Mount Forest produces poultry and swine feeds exclusively. The company head office remains in Conestogo.
